Dengue cases still high in some regions —DOH

Dengue cases are still high in some regions in the country, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

In a report by Mav Gonzales on GMA News TV's Balitanghali on Tuesday, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said that dengue is rampant in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Soccsksargen.

"Kinakailangan talaga ng community participation para maiwasan ang pagkalat ng dengue," Duque said.

In San Quintin, Pangasinan 21 cases of dengue have been recently recorded, 19 of which were from Barangay Alac.

A special task force has already been created by the local government to focus on curbing the incidence of dengue among the residents.

According to the provincial health office, over 1,200 cases of dengue were reported in Pangasinan from January 1 to June 17, 2019.

The nationwide count of dengue cases this year, on the other hand, has already reached 79,941 as of May 25, 2019.

This figure was higher than the previous record of 44,700 cases during the same period in 2018.

The DOH reminded the public to search and destroy mosquito breeding places, take self-protection measures, and seek early consultation if symptoms of dengue persist.

According to DOH, among the symptoms of dengue are high fever, rashes, vomiting, stomach pains, and nosebleeding. —Dona Magsino/LDF, GMA News
