Grade 7 student critical after he was shot inside classroom in Laguna

A Grade 7 student is in critical condition after he was shot while inside a classroom in Calamba, Laguna, on Thursday, police said.

In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, Lieutenant Colonel Jacinto Malinao Jr., chief of Calamba Police Station, identified the victim as Mark Anthony Miranda, 15 years old.

Malinao said Miranda was inside one of the classrooms of Masili National High School when shot by the suspect identified as Renz Ivan Valderrama at around 12:30 p.m. He said based on the description of witnesses, the suspect is between 30 to 40 years old.

Malinao said they are looking into the possibility that the victim and the suspect had a relationship.

"Based dun sa initial interview natin sa witnesses ay isang bakla [ang suspek] at tinitignan natin kung meron ba silang relation nitong biktima," he said.

Lt. Col. Malinao: Biglang pumasok ang suspek (sa classroom) at identified naman natin ito na si Renz Ivan Valderama na nasa 30-40 years old at isang bakla. Tinitignan natin kung mayroon silang relasyon dito sa biktima.

"Based on the profiling na ginagawa natin dun sa persons involved, yung victim at suspect, magkakilala sila talaga," Malinao added. "Tinitignan natin yung angulo na yun."

The victim sustained gunshot wounds in the head and body and was rushed to a medical facility in Los Baños where he was declared "brain dead" by the attending physician. —KBK, GMA News
