Kin of slain lawyer in Negros Oriental demand justice

The family of slain lawyer Anthony Trinidad, who was ambushed in Negros Oriental, on Wednesday demanded justice from the government.

"We are appealing to the government to please help us seek justice for our brother and get the perpetrators behind jail the soonest possible time," the Trinidad family said in a statement.

"This spate of killings in our country and the culture of violence have to stop. We cannot and should not constantly live in fear. Stop the killings," they added.

Trinidad was ambushed by motorcycle-riding suspects in Guihulngan City while he was driving an SUV on the way home from a hearing.

The lawyer died after being shot several times. His wife was also wounded in the incident.

According to the police, Trinidad was among the names in a hit list by the Kawsa Guihulnganon Batok Komunista (KAGUBAK).

The family, on the other hand, said that they do not want to speculate on the motives behind the ambush.

"We leave it to authorities to do their job," they said.

The Trinidad family described the slain lawyer as a "kind-hearted, soft-spoken person who was willing to go out of his way to help people in need." —LDF, GMA News
