Batanes quake damage pegged at P47 million

The cost of damage brought by the series of earthquakes which hit Itbayat, Batanes on Saturday has reached P47 million, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Monday (NDRRMC).

In its latest situation report, the NDRRMC said the cost of damage of the two health facilities that were hit by the earthquakes are P40 million for Itbayat District Hospital and P7 million for Itbayat Rural Health Unit.

The NDRRMC said a total of 15 houses as well as two schools were also damaged by the earthquakes — a magnitude 5.4 followed by a magnitude 5.9 then a magnitude 5.4.

A total of 911 families of 2,963 people had to flee their homes and are now staying at the Itbayat Plaza.

The earthquake claimed the lives of eight individuals and wounded 63 others. The NDRRMC said one was still missing as of Monday morning.  —KBK, GMA News
