Security forces arrest suspect in Negros Oriental cop executions

Security forces on Saturday arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the July 18 execution of four Negros Oriental police officers by communist New People's Army gunmen in Ayungon town.

In a 12 p.m. joint operation involving Philippine National Police and Philippine Army units in Ayungon's Barangay Mabato, security forces arrested alleged NPA fighter Jojo Torres Ogatis.

Ogatis was being held at the headquarters of the PNP's 704th Maneuver Company-Regional Public Safety Battalion 7 in Mabinay town, while the appropriate charges were prepared and filed against him in court.

Last July 18, Police Corporal Relebert Beronio, Patrolman Raffy Callao, Patrolman Ruel Cabellon, and Patrolman Marquino de Leon were verifying intelligence reports that the NPA were operating in the Ayungon area when they were attacked, tortured, and killed. — DVM, GMA News
