Three barangays in Rodriguez, Rizal were undergoing quarantine measures after the unusual death of around 100 hogs in the area, its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said on Tuesday.

According to a report on Super Radyo dzBB, Rodriguez MDRRMO chief Genaro Inocentes said that local officials are already inspecting small piggeries in barangays San Isidro, San Jose, and Macabud.

Live swines detected of having diseases are immediately culled and disposed of in a landfill.

"Tine-testing na namin, kung may ano (sakit)  po, kinakatay na po... May pinaglalagyan po kami sa landfill," Inocentes said.

It was not confirmed yet whether the disease that killed the livestock in the area was African Swine Flu.

Inocentes assured the public that no pork from Rodriguez, Rizal will be made available to the market while the quarantine is in effect.

According to the Department of Agriculture on Monday, blood samples from hogs have been sent abroad for testing of various animal diseases as increased mortality has been recorded in several areas.
