Lion Air to pay for funeral expenses of fatalities in Calamba plane crash

Lion Air, owner of the medevac plane that crashed in Calamba City, Laguna on Sunday, gave the assurance that it will pay for the funeral expenses of the nine fatalities in the accident.

"So far right now, we're managing all of the funeral expenses. The rest of the expenses...corporate will have more answers in the morning," Atty. Lester Ople, lawyer of Lion Air, said, according to a report by Jonathan Andal on GMA News' Unang Balita on Monday.

The company's immediate focus though is to get their crew and passengers to their loved ones, and ensure those needing medical attention get the proper treatment, he said.

"For now, ang focus namin is two things. Number one, get our crew and passengers with their loved ones. Number two, those requiring medical attention as a result of this particular accident to have adequate medical attention. So 'yun ang focus namin right now," Ople said.

The company is willing to work with authorities in the investigation of the crash, he added.

"We are ready to work with authorities to have this investigated," he said.

Nine people were killed after the medevac plane crashed on two private resorts in Barangay Pansol at around 3:34 p.m. Sunday.

Two caretakers of one resort were hurt. They were identified as John Ray Roca, 19, and his mother Malou Roca, 49. 

According to the Calamba City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the two suffered burns but are otherwise out of danger.

They are recuperating at the Calamba Doctors' Hospital as of posting time.

According to the police report, the plane was transporting a patient from Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte to Metro Manila for treatment at the time of the incident. —KG, GMA News
