PMA cadet dies after battling cancer —spox

The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) on Monday said a cadet had recently died at the AFP Medical Center in Quezon City after battling cancer.

According to PMA spokesperson Captain Cheryl Tindog, Cadet Second Class Cedrick Gadia was admitted in Fort Del Pilar Station Hospital last August 29, and then brought to the AFP Medical Center on September 5 for further treatment.

He was then diagnosed with Stage IV esophageal cancer, with liver and lung metastasis.

The military school already expressed sympathy to the grieving family and friends of Gadia.

"We will continue to assist him and his family to accord one of our own sons and members of the AFP with the due honor that befits him," Tindog said.

At present, Gadia's remains are at the AFP Medical Center as PMA continues to arrange for his transfer to Candon, Ilocos Sur, Tindog said.

Weeks ago, the PMA came under fire after a 4th class cadet, 20-year-old Darwin Dormitorio, died from injuries sustained from hazing rites. Several PMA cadets are now facing charges in connection with the incident. —KBK, GMA News
