Davao Region provided with P12.3-M in quake relief – RDRRMC XI

Over P12.3 million worth of assistance had been provided to earthquake victims in the Davao Region as of November 2, according to the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) XI.

“The government, through its response mechanism, has been providing the needed assistance and support to the affected communities since day one,” said Regional Director Manuel Luis Ochotorena, director for Regions IX and XI of the Office of Civil Defense.

Mindanao was struck by a powerful 6.5-magnitude temblor on October 31, following two previous quakes on October 29 (magnitude 6.6) and 16 (magnitude 6.3).

In a statement, Ochotorena said that over P12.3 million worth of food, shelter, financial, and health assistance have been provided to quake victims.

He added that RDRRMC XI officials were also conducting field assessments and damage validations to improve relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Ochotorena also said that the regional disaster council was operating on a 24/7 response mechanism in coordination with local disaster councils.

“We would like to request and remind all groups, organizations or individuals who wish to provide in-kind or cash assistance to always have direct coordination with Regional and Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils to ensure that all affected communities or families will be able to receive the necessary assistance,” he said.
