Politics, land dispute possible motives behind Dumaguete radioman's slay —police

Investigators are looking into three possible motives for the murder of a radio broadcaster in Dumaguete City on Thursday morning.

Police Brigadier General Valeriano De Leon, chief of the Central Visayas police, on Friday said he had directed authorities to thoroughly investigate the killing of Dindo Generoso.

Aside from his profession, De Leon mentioned politics and family land dispute as possible motives behind the crime.

“Reportedly, he was a hard-hitting radio broadcaster. He filed his candidacy for mayor but was declared a nuisance candidate in the 2016 election,” De Leon said.

“I have already ordered a thorough investigation of this case. All angles will be looked into to determine the motive of this attack against Dindo Generoso,” he added.

Generoso was on his way to his morning radio program when his car was shot by still unidentified gunmen just outside a public elementary school in Barangay Piapi.

Generoso died on the spot, authorities had said.

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security condemned the incident and vowed to bring justice on the death of Generoso.

Generoso's killing marks the second time since 2018 that a local media personality was gunned down in Dumaguete city. On April 30, 2018, motorcycle-riding gunmen shot broadcaster Edmund Sestoso near his boarding house in Barangay Daro. He died from his injuries the following day.

Malacañang and the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) have condemned Generoso's killing and urged the local government and the police to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators. —KBK, GMA News
