Laguna man robs two motels using son's Halloween mask

Using his son’s Halloween mask, a security guard in Laguna was able to rob two motels in Biñan.

Wearing a motorcycle helmet and armed with an eight-inch knife, the suspect, identified as Marineco Olivera, was able to take away P35,000 from the two motels he targeted.

In the CCTV footage of one of the motels, the cashier is seen trying to hurriedly lock the door to prevent the suspect from entering their office. The masked suspect, however, overpowered the cashier and forced his way in.

Employees of the motel can be seen running away from the suspect as he made his escape.

But there was one major flaw in his crime — he left his knife in the motel, with the price tag and bar code still on the bladed weapon.

Biñan Police Chief Police Lieutenant ColonelDanilo Mendoza immediately ordered the backtracking on the evidence to determine where and when the knife was purchased.

This later led to the unmasking of the suspect with the help of the supermarket’s CCTV.

Within 8 hours after the robbery, police arrested Olivera, who did not deny the crime.

Olivera was one of the security guards of one of the motels he robbed. He said that out of desperation, he robbed the motels because of his debt that he got from his gambling habit.

He said he bought the knife three days before he conducted the robbery and also admitted the mask he wore under his helmet was his son’s Halloween mask.

The suspect has been charged with robbery and is now detained in Biñan police. —KBK, GMA News
