2 suspects in Dumaguete radio broadcaster slay arrested

Two suspects in the killing of Dumaguete radio broadcaster Dindo Generoso were nabbed on Thursday, police said on Friday.

Information from the Police Regional Office 7 identified the suspects as Teddy Reyes Salaw, 44 and Glenn Corsame, the alleged driver of the motorcycle used in the crime.

Police described Corsame as a retired policeman of San Jose Village in Barangay Banilad.

Seized from Salaw was a .45 caliber pistol Norinco with eight rounds of live ammunition.

According to Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) executive director Joel Egco, the arrest of the suspects was successful because of the assistance of Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and the car manufacturer in identifying the vehicle of the suspects.

Egco said law enforces had used the CCTV footage they had gathered to track down the vehicle that was used during the crime.

Egco also said the PTFoMS had received reports that the suspects were supposedly in the employ of a powerful politician in the province, adding that the mastermind of the crime is still the subject of the ongoing follow-up operation.

Meanwhile, authorities said another suspect, identified as Police Corporal Roger Rubio, is still at large and being hunted by law enforcers.

Authorities are now preparing the filing of murder raps against the suspects.

Palace welcomes development

Malacañang promptly welcomed the development, praising authorities for the arrest of the suspects.

“The arrest of the suspects is just the beginning of our quest to bring justice for Generoso and his family,” Communications Secretary Maritn Andanar said.

“This also shows the relentless determination of President Duterte and the PTFoMS, as well as the entire administration in addressing the threats to our media professionals and to solving all forms of violence against media, especially killings,” he added.

Possible motives

Earlier, the Central Visayas police said three angles are being looked into by the investigators as motives of the crime.

These include his profession, politics and family land dispute, police said.

Generoso was on his way to his morning radio program when his car was shot at by still unidentified gunmen just outside a public elementary school in Barangay Piapi.

The radio broadcaster died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds.

The Palace has condemned the killing of Generoso and called on investigators to immediately arrest the suspects to give justice to Generoso’s death. — RSJ/KBK, GMA News
