Cotabato governor urges donors to drop off relief goods at gov’t warehouse

The acting governor of Cotabato has called on donors of relief goods to drop off their donations at the local government’s warehouse to ensure that all items were properly managed.

Interviewed on Balitanghali on Tuesday, Cotabato Acting Governor Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza said there are some areas where evacuees receive more than the needed relief goods because the local government was not able to properly account for all the donations.

“Minsan talagang doble doble. Sa isang araw, merong area na limang grupo ang darating, lalo na pag ‘di pumasok sa aming center, ‘di naaaccount nang ayos ng probinsya o ng mga munisipyo,” she explained.

Cotabato is still reeling from the powerful earthquakes that struck on October 16 (magnitude 6.3), October 29 (magnitude 6.6), and October 31 (magnitude 6.5).

“So dito na kami ngayon sa warehouse kasi alam din naman natin after a few days or a week from now, mag-iiba na naman ‘yung support. ‘Yung goods, perhaps, mawawala ‘yan, so mabuti na ‘yung nama-manage para masustain natin ‘yung pangangailangan ng evacuees,” Mendoza added.

The Cotabato official also thanked their partner local governments and other donors for conducting medical missions and stress debriefings for evacuees, among other kinds of aid.

Mendoza said they still have ample buffer stock for evacuees.

The local government’s fund for food, non-food items, and health services was still at P10 million as of November 6. —NB, GMA News
