Blue alert raised over Aurora

A blue alert has been raised over northern Aurora as residents brace for Tropical Storm Ramon, according to a Monday report on Balitanghali by Bam Alegre.

Under state weather bureau PAGASA’s new storm surge warning system, a blue alert means a surge less than a meter tall is expected to cause minor damage and flooding in low-lying areas.

As of 2 p.m., northern Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, and Dinalungan) is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.

According to the report, the weather in the area was generally good over the weekend, but cloudy skies arrived on Monday.

Local authorities said there will be no preemptive evacuation because the weather had improved.

Fishermen in Aurora are also closely monitoring the waters to see when they can begin sailing again.

The local government said it remains vigilant but believes that the tropical storm will no longer have a strong impact on Aurora. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
