Over 150 patients evacuated due to magnitude 5.9 earthquake in Bukidnon

Over 150 patients in Don Carlos, Bukidnon were evacuated from two hospitals due to the magnitude 5.9 earthquake that struck the province in southern Philippines on Monday night.

According to a report by GMA stringer Michael Tolang on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday, the patients were brought to a gymnasium.

Work of local government employees had been suspended because the municipal hall was also damaged.

Authorities are set to inspect the structural integrity of affected buildings in town.

The earthquake that struck at 9:22 p.m. west of Kadingilan was tectonic in origin, and had a five-kilometer depth of focus.

Meanwhile, there were no reported fatalities in Kadingilan, according to its municipal mayor.

In a separate interview on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday, Kadingilan Mayor Jerry Canoy said there were only minor injuries reported in the town due to the temblor.

Six houses were also totally damaged in Barangay Husayan while there were partially damaged residential structures in other barangays, he added.

Canoy said the local government is working to give assistance to the affected residents.

Classes scheduled on Tuesday were canceled in all levels in Damulog, Don Carlos, Kadingilan, Kibawe, Maramag, Quezon and Valencia. —Dona Magsino/KG, GMA News
