Tisoy ravages Luzon, Visayas provinces

Typhoon Tisoy battered various provinces in Luzon and Visayas overnight and continues to be felt on Tuesday.

According to a report of Emil Sumangil on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday, the province of Albay experienced around six hours of continuous rains and strong winds.

The whole roof of a house in Legazpi City landed on the middle of the road after violent winds dismantled it from the structure.

The domestic airport in Legazpi City also suffered heavy damage as the typhoon's winds caused the terminal's ceiling to fall, windows to break, chairs to topple, and signboard to be blown away.

Over 31,000 families have already been evacuated in the province. Relief goods were prepositioned in Albay's disaster operation center. Quick response teams were also placed on standby to respond to any call that they may receive from distressed residents.

In Camarines Norte, over 3,000 have evacuated. Apart from damaged houses, some trees and posts also fell due to strong winds.

Tisoy also took down the cellphone signals of some telecommunication companies in the province.

Naga City, meanwhile, experienced heavy rains and strong winds which took down several trees and posts. A scaffolding also collapsed, Raffy Tima reported.

Over 7,000 residents of Virac, Catanduanes have also transferred to evacuation centers. The inmates were likewise evacuated from the Virac Bureau of Jail Management and Penology because of the possibility of a storm surge.

In Catbalogan, Samar, forced evacuation of around 3,000 residents were implemented on Monday, GMA News stringer Rommel Rutor reported. Power supply has been restored in the city but brownout is still being experienced in other parts of the province.

In Northern Samar, strong winds and rains continued to prevail, according to a report by Chino Gaston.

Some residents in General Luna town placed heavy objects above their roofs to prevent them from being blown away. Others already transferred to evacuation centers.

Atimonan, Quezon had continuous downpours and strong winds due to Tisoy. Over 4,000 have been evacuated by the local government since Monday. Monitoring of possible flooding and landslides is ongoing, Jun Veneracion reported.

Meanwhile, some fisherfolk in Gumaca, Quezon continued to venture into the sea despite the rough waves.

Cargo trucks, on the other hand, were stranded in Batangas Port because of the inclement weather. Some traders were concerned that the perishable goods they were set to deliver will be compromised because of the delay.

Maritime travel in Tagbilaran, Bohol has also been suspended.

Gloomy weather is also being experienced in Odiongan, Romblon. Some trees were already cut off to prevent accidents due to the strong winds.

Tisoy maintained its strength and was off the coast of Bondoc Peninsula, PAGASA said in its 8 a.m. severe weather bulletin.

Its eyewall is bringing violent winds and heavy to intense rains over Southern Quezon, Marinduque and Romblon as of posting time. —Dona Magsino/KG, GMA News
