Shariff Aguak vice mayor Ampatuan, companions ambushed on Maguindanao highway

The vice mayor of Shariff Aguak in Maguindanao and his two escorts were ambushed by still unidentified gun men on a highway in the province on Tuesday afternoon.

Shariff Aguak police chief Police Major Erwin Tabora said Vice Mayor Akmad Mitra Ampatuan and his two companions had just left the town hall when they were attacked around 1 p.m.

The victims were rushed to Maguindanao’s  Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) for immediate medical treatment.

"Meron pong nag-abang kasi makikita po naman kasi natin yung tamang sasakyan nila na sa side at puwitan," Tabora said in a report on "24 Oras".

"'Di po naman masakto kung ilan ang bilang yung nakasakay ng multicab," he added.

Tabora said Ampatuan had just come from the police station and even refused his offer for more security escorts.
