Eastern Samar imposes blackout ahead of Ursula’s landfall

Authorities in Eastern Samar imposed a power blackout in the province as part of the preparations for the onslaught of Typhoon Ursula, the provincial administrator said on Tuesday.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB, Eastern Samar provincial administrator Nelson Cortez said the ‘blackout’ was enforced Tuesday afternoon.

Cortez added that this decision was made during their meeting with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDDRMO) on Monday.

Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ESAMELCO) will position its personnel and necessary equipment so that power can be immediately restored when needed, Cortez said.

Ursula made landfall in Salcedo, Eastern Samar on 4:45 p.m.

Some residents have already evacuated from their homes ahead of the landfall.

Storm Signal No. 3 was raised over Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, and Camotes Islands. —Joviland Rita/NB, GMA News
