17-year-old under investigation for nCoV in Kalibo hospital

A 17-year-old Chinese national who was in isolation at a public hospital in Kalibo, Aklan with a fever was the latest person to be investigated for possible infection by the novel coronavirus.

However, authorities were still looking into the patient's travel history, according to a Saturday report by Bam Alegre on GMA News' 24 Oras Weekend.

Another person also under investigation in Kalibo, a 23-year-old Filipino flight attendant, had been confined since Thursday with a sore throat.

The Filipino patient was being given antibiotics and did not display other severe symptoms of the virus.

"Currently there is no confirmed case in Aklan. But, of course, yung mga ginagawa natin, of course, is in coordination with the Bureau of Quarantine, Department of Health," Dr. Bong Cuachon of the Aklan Provincial Health Office, said.

Meanwhile, four people under investigation were awaiting their test results in Cebu, according to a separate report by James Agustin.

On Thursday, the Department of Health said that the country had its first confirmed nCoV case when a 38-year-old Chinese woman from Wuhan tested positive for the virus.

She was in stable condition at the San Lazaro Hospital, according to sources. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA
