Former soldier kills 1, injures 5 others for ‘maligning his reputation’

One individual was killed while at least five others were rushed to a hospital in Cavite after they were shot by a former member of the Philippine Army whose reputation was reportedly maligned by the victims.

According to initial reports from the General Trias Police, suspect Junny Palacio shot at several people using a revolver past 8 a.m. on Sunday, March 1.

"Suspect, while armed with Caliber .38 revolver (shooter brand) looked for six individuals who betrayed him by maligning his reputation as contractor," initial investigation by the local police revealed.

Among those injured were retired Philippine Army member Alberto Sorio, tricycle driver Rector Marbit, and a Pilar Bacaoco, while a certain Murharma Bautista was killed.

Two police officials—PCMS Zaldy Espiritu, and PSMS Reynante Tan—were also rushed to the hospital after they were shot while trying to apprehend Palacio.

"Other members of responding team chased and cornered the suspect and requested to surrender, but instantaneously shot himself (forehead) that resulted in his death," the police report read. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
