COVID-19 patient dies in Cagayan de Oro; death toll now 6 in Philippines


The Department of Health - Region 10 has confirmed that a COVID-19 patient died Friday in Cagayan de Oro City in Misamis Oriental, according to a report by GMA Regional TV One Mindanao.

 

The confirmed COVID-19 case, referred to as Patient 40 (PH40) died at 9 p.m. while confined at Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC).

The DOH said the patient's cause of death is "acute respiratory distress syndrome due to severe pneumonia with concomitant acute kidney injury."

 

 

The patient's blood pressure dropped to zero on Friday morning. Medical personnel were able to revive the patient but said patient eventually expired.

The COVID-19 patient had no travel history abroad.

However, the patient worked for an office in Pasig City which also had an office in San Juan City, wherein there were nine COVID-19 cases as of Friday, according to San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora.

The patient's symptoms started manifesting on February 24.

On March 3, the patient went to Iligan City for vacation.

On March 8, the patient had difficulty in breathing due to severe pneumonia and was referred to NMMC.

The patient tested positive for COVID-19 on March 11.

As of Friday, the DOH said the number of COVID-19 cases has reached 64.

Five other COVID-19 cases led to death in the country. These include a Chinese national—the first fatality from the disease outside China—and four Filipinos.
