Grab driver who tested positive for COVID-19 undergoes quarantine

The Pampanga Grab driver who tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) is undergoing quarantine procedures, Grab Philippines said Saturday.

"We received reports that one of our driver-partners in Pampanga has tested positive for COVID-19, who is now receiving medical treatment. Grab has placed the driver-partner under 14-day suspension while undergoing quarantine, and will receive medical and financial support from the company," Grab said in a statement.

The ride-hailing firm said it will also assist in the deep-disinfection of the vehicle used by the driver and will be working closely with the health and local government officials to assist them in conducting the necessary contact-tracing endeavor.

Grab said they have notified the DOH two hours after learning about the case, and shared details of the driver and his passengers, but limited the sharing of personal information to protect the individuals’ privacy.

"Grab's priority is to ensure the safety of our community and driver-partners. Since the start of the outbreak, we have been working very closely with the Department of Health (DOH) to ensure we have timely communications and support for our drivers, as well as robust contact tracing processes in place."

Grab added it will closely follow DOH protocol should a driver or passenger become a possible COVID-19 case, and that it will provide accurate information to the DOH "in a timely manner." —Jamil Santos/LBG, GMA News
