Laguna confirms first COVID-19 case in Santa Rosa

The province of Laguna has confirmed its first case of COVID-19, in the city of Santa Rosa.

Governor Ramil Hernandez made the announcement in a Facebook post early Sunday morning. It is not immediately clear if the case is among the 111 cases so far confirmed by the Department of Health.

"Ang pasyente po ay nasa pangangalaga na ng kinauukulan. Ang impormasyon pong ito ay nanggaling at kinumpirma ng RITM," Hernandez wrote in his post. "Ganunpaman, gusto ko pong siguraduhin sa bawat isa na ginagampanan po natin ang mga tamang panuntunan sa ganitong sitwasyon."

Hernandez added that the provincial and city government units are already cooperating to conduct contact tracing and validation for the confirmed case.

"Hinihiling ko po ang pakikiisa ng bawat isa para sa kabutihan ng lahat," he said.

Hernandez made the announcement mere minutes after a community quarantine in nearby Metro Manila took into effect. The quarantine restricts domestic air, domestic sea, and land travel to and from the capital region, as a result of the COVID-19 threat that has resulted in eight deaths in the country, according to the DOH. —JST, GMA News
