Cop arrested in Cebu due to illegal numbers game ops


A cop was arrested in Lahug, Cebu City on Sunday for allegedly being involved in the operation of illegal numbers game in the area, according to the Philippine National Police - Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP - IMEG) on Monday.

Authorities identify the accused cop as Police Staff Sergeant Carlito Tinoy, 41, who was a member of the Central Visayas' 701st Regional Mobile Force Battalion. His alleged cohort, Joven Igam, was also nabbed.

“We have arrested a police non-commissioned officer who has been the subject of persistent reports regarding his involvement in the rampant operations of ‘swertres,’ a banned numbers’ game in his neighborhood despite the order of General Gamboa to stop all forms of illegal gambling activities and the full implementation of the ‘No-Take Policy’ across the country,” PNP - IMEG director Police Colonel Ronald Lee said.

During the operation, authorities seized from Tinoy some cash worth P4,000, calculator, pen, a booklet containing different number combinations while P500, pen and three pieces of tally sheets of number combinations were confiscated from Igam.

Police said Tinoy's firearm, a 9mm Glock 17 semi-automatic pistol, was also confiscated from him.

The PNP - IMEG is already preparing the charges against the suspects who are now in police custody. —LDF, GMA News
