Young girl is Oriental Mindoro's first confirmed COVID-19 case

A child aged 1 year and nine months became the first confirmed case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection in Oriental Mindoro province, according to Governor Bonz Dolor on Friday.

In a post on Facebook, Dolor said the young female patient, who is from Barangay Ilaya in Calapan City, was in Alabang in Metro Manila from March 5 to 12, 2020.

"H[er] guardians will be subject to testing as well," he said.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, Dolor said the child, who was living with her grandparents and cousin, was brought to a hospital on March 22 due to high fever and that the initial assessment was dengue.

But since the child was considered an "extreme PUI (person under investigation)," a test was conducted on her and the samples were taken to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa City.

"Sa walong results, siya lang ang positive," Dolor said.

The seven others who tested negative were mostly senior citizens with age ranging from 55 to 84 years old. --KBK, GMA News
