BJMP monitoring COVID-19 cases at Cebu City Jail

The spokesman of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Wednesday said it is monitoring the two cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at the Cebu City Jail.

At the Laging Handa press briefing, Jail Chief Inspector Xavier Solda said it was the local government of Cebu City which disclosed the cases of COVID-19 inside the jail facility.

"Nakareceive po kami ng reports, it was announced by the local government of Cebu City pero di pa po namin nire-receive 'yung report diyan. As of today, mayroon pa rin po kaming siyam and minomonitor po natin 'yung dalawa diyan na inannounce po ng Cebu City mayor," Solda said.

Meanwhile, Solda said the nine Quezon City Jail detainees who got infected with COVID-19 are already in good condition: "'Yung siyam ay patuloy na bumubuti ang pakiramdam."

Solda that those inmates isolated at a quarantine facility in Payatas were in stable condition too.

According to Solda, the BJMP will also establish quarantine facilities in the provinces of Quezon and Pampanga.

Last week, Solda announced that nine BJMP personnel were positive for COVID-19 aside from the nine inmates at Quezon City Jail.

These BJMP employees, who were doing paralegal and administrative duties, were observing home quarantine. — RSJ, GMA News
