2 barangay tanod beaten up by quarantine violator, family in Bulacan

Two barangay tanods were beaten up by a quarantine violator and his family in Baliuag, Bulacan, according to Mark Salazar's Wednesday report on 24 Oras.

Barangay Pinagbarilan deputy tanod Hilario Angeles lost a tooth and sustained various minor injuries on the body, the report said.

According to the report, Angeles scolded the suspect for loitering despite the quarantine.

Tumakbo," he added.

Hilario and Osias Angeles, another tanod, chased the violator until they reached his house, where the pair was reportedly beaten up by the family.

. . . pinagtatadyakan nila ko," Angeles said.

Osias said he tried to help Angeles when he was hit in the head. The injury required four stitches.

Duguan nga," Osias said.

Authorities have arrested the father, his three male children, and another relative.

They have been charged with assault, resisting arrest, disrespect for authority, and violation of the Bayanihan Act.

According to Angeline De Lima, the barangay tanod tried to get inside their house to go after his brother.

The family said they do not have enough money to pay for the bail of the arested.

The barangay chairman, meanwhile, said that this was not the first time local authorities scolded the family for violating countermeasures against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

"Madalas dumaan, walang facemask, pababalik-balik, walang quarantine pass. Laging nasisita at napag-sasabihan," chairman Danilo Bugay said.

"So talagang ganoon sila, gumagawa ng maraming dahilan para makapasok makalabas pero meron tayo kasing goal na pinatutupad, eh," he added. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
