Clever Baguio drivers maintain social distancing inside jeepneys

Drivers in Baguio City have found a way to enforce social distancing inside their jeepneys amid the enhanced community quarantine to prevent coronavirus transmissions.

According to Cedric Castillo's Tuesday report on 24 Oras, drivers strung up plastic sheets to divide each side of the jeepney into five seats.

Driver Ariel Amino’s son Vilmark came up with the idea.

“Sabi no’ng panganay ko, ‘Lagyan niyo ng plastic,’ sabi niya. Sabi naman no’ng pangalawa, ‘Ako na lang bahala.’ Pinabili ko siya ng plastic… saka ‘yung straw. ‘Yun lang para simple,” Amino said.

A bottle of rubbing alcohol was also placed at the entrance of the jeepney for passengers’ use.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong had ordered city department heads to study the possibility of subsidizing jeepneys.

Over 300 jeepneys continued to ply the roads of Baguio after barangay officials asked the local government to allow public transport to ferry shoppers and frontline workers twice a week.

Baguio City recorded 28 COVID-19 cases with 11 recoveries and one death, according to data from the Department of Health. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
