Cebu City records 40 new COVID-19 cases; total rises to 1,474

Cebu City has recorded 40 more cases of the coronavirus disease 2019, bringing the city’s total infections to 1,474, its city health department announced Sunday.

In a Facebook post, the Cebu City Public Information Office said 33 of the new cases came from Sitio Negative Carreta; two from Sambag 2; and one each from Alaska, Mambaling; Bato, Ermita; Punta Princesa; and Sunset Drive, Lahug. Another one is an OFW from an unverified address.

Mayor Edgar Labella has already ordered the transfer of all asymptomatic patients to the Carreta Elementary School who were previously isolated in barangay isolation centers.

He said the city government will also assist Barangay Carreta by providing additional relief such as rice and canned goods.

Labella added the recent spike in cases in Barangay Carreta was the result of contact tracing and mass swab testing.

He also urged all residents to stay at home and follow quarantine protocols.

Nationwide, cases of COVID-19 reached 10,610 with 704 fatalities and 1,842 recoveries.  —Ma. Angelica Garcia/LBG, GMA News
