Central Visayas COVID-19 cases top 7k with 259 new infections –DOH


Confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 cases in the whole of Central Visayas (Region VII) rose to 7,156 as of June 25, the Regional health office has reported.

A Facebook post by the regional health office of the Department of Health late Thursday evening indicates that of the 7,156 confirmed cases, 4,139 are active with reported 259 new infections.

Of the total, the province has recorded 2,789 recoveries, and 228 fatalities.


Central Visayas is composed of the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor and Negros Oriental.

More than half of the regional total are in Cebu City or 4,607 of the 7,156 cases. Cebu City is a chartered city.

On Thursday, Cebu City announced 70 new cases, bringing the total to 4,607.

The city has been placed under tight lockdown due to the steep spike in the number of COVID-19 cases.

At least 12 barangays in Cebu City were identified as hotspots for COVID-19 and will be placed under strict lockdown, said Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, who has been designated to oversee the management of COVID-19 response there. —LBG/KBK, GMA News
