An initial police investigation indicated that the suspect’s wife, 75-year-old Basilisa Crisologo-Turk, was found dead lying on the ground beside their house and was already in an early stage of decomposition.

Basilisa’s cause of death was not stated in the report, however, authorities recovered one bladed weapon with more or less 15 inches in length, one piece of straight wood with more or less 21 inches in length, artificial teeth believed to be owned by the victim, and one cellphone beside her body.

A further investigation showed that on June 24, Basilisa informed her relatives that she and her husband were having arguments and that the suspect threatened to kill her.

After several days, Helinda Orjalesa Crisologo, Basilisa’s sister, tried to contact the victim but her cellphone was already unattended.

At around 3 p.m. on June 26, Crisologo went to the victim’s house and found her lying lifeless on the ground.

Martin was arrested by barangay tanods of Barangay Tulay Buhangin and was turned-over to police authorities.

The suspect is currently detained at Pagbilao Municipal Police Station custodial facility as authorities prepare to file criminal charges against him.  —Ma. Angelica Garcia and Peewee Bacuño/LBG, GMA News
