Cebu City logs record-high 353 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths


Cebu City on Tuesday announced 353 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the highest number of new cases it reported in a single day, raising the total to 5,494.

The Cebu City Health Department (CHD) also said total recoveries rose to 2,723 after 10 more patients recovered from the respiratory illness, while the death toll remained at 169 with no new fatalities.

The CHD said there are also 2,602 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.

Cebu City still has the highest number of infections nationwide, followed by Quezon City with 3,362 cases as of Tuesday morning.

Secretary Roy Cimatu, overseer of the government’s COVID-19 response in Cebu City, earlier said he wants the city to remain under the stringent enhanced community quarantine after June 30. 

President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to announce his latest directives on quarantine restrictions across the country on Tuesday night. —LDF, GMA News
