Barangay official in Bohol faces charges after participating in illegal cockfighting activity


TAGBILARAN CITY - A barangay official and 9 others will be facing charges for violating Presidential Decree 449, or the illegal cockfighting law, after getting caught participating in an illegal cockfighting activity (tukis or tigbakay in Cebuano) on Sunday afternoon in Barangay Bayacabac in Maribojoc town.

Police arrested Jiovanni Lerin Rojas, 41, barangay captain of Calayugan Norte in Loon town, Bohol province.

The others arrested are the following: Randy Doheneio Aranzado, 26, resident of Barangay San Roque, Maribojoc; Ronnie Miro Bravo, 25, a resident of Barangay Manga, Tagbilaran City; Jiovnny Magno Meñoza, 38, a resident of Barangay Bayacabac, Maribojoc; Richard Villalon Bolasco, 41, a resident of Barangay Dipatlong, Maribojoc; Zandro Unod Bantog, 41, a resident of Barangay Manga, Tagbilaran City; Glenn Giling Budlong, 34, a resident of Barangay Manga, Tagbilaran City; Jomil Nalzaro Ocharon, 42, a resident of Barangay Agahay, Maribojoc; Dindo Santoyas Liones, 25, a resident of Barangay Agahay, Maribojoc; Ariston Villas Asedilla, 60, a resident of Barangay Dipatlong, Maribojoc.

According to Police Staff Sergeant Jed Jamisola, investigator at the Maribojoc Police Station, Bohol police's Provincial Mobile Force Company-Special Weapons and Tactics (PMFC-SWAT), Police Intervention Unit (PIU), Regional Intelligence Division (RID)-7 and Maribojoc Police Station responded to a call about the illegal activity in Barangay Bayacabac a a few minutes after 5 p.m.

Jamisola added that there were still others who were able to flee the scene when the police arrived in the area.

Police recovered logbook, stag registry forms; digital weighing scale, an improvised board attached with a yellow pad with entry names; three pieces dead fighting cocks; derby cocks with attached gaffs and P2,240 cash.

The 10 men are detained at the Maribojoc Police Station while charges are being prepared. -- BAP, GMA News
