Two kidnapping suspects were killed Wednesday night following an armed encounter with law enforcers in Teresa, Rizal, according to the Philippine National Police - Anti-Kidnapping Group on Thursday.

Information from the police identified the slain suspects as Rodel Basi and his son Romar.

Authorities said they went to a residence in Sitio Ibabaw 2 in Dulongbayan to conduct a police operation and implement a search warrant against the elder Basi when the suspects fired shots at them.

Operatives from the PNP-AKG retaliated, which resulted in the death of the suspects who were supposedly involved in a series of kidnapping incidents involving Indian nationals, robbery, gun for hire, and even murder incidents in Rizal province.

The search warrant against Basi was issued by Judge Cynthia Marino-Ricablanca of the Regional Trial Court Fourth Judicial Region in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, for alleged violation of Republic Act 10591.

During the operation, Basi's youngest son was also nabbed by the police. They were able to seize a shotgun, a 9 MM pistol, a cal .45 pistol from the suspect.

The PNP-AKG said the fatalities are known in the area as "armed and dangerous." —KBK, GMA News
