Military seizes lair of Mundi Sawadjaan in Indanan, Sulu

Government forces seized the suspected lair of Mundi Sawadjaan in Indanan, Sulu on Tuesday morning, according to the Joint Task Force Sulu.

Citing a report from Colonel Antonio Bautista, commander of the 1101st Brigade, the JTF Sulu said the site was occupied by Sawadjaan and more or less 40 local terrorists for almost three days.

The military seized some personal belongings and food in the area.

Sawadjaan was believed to be the mastermind of the twin explosions that killed 15 individuals and hurt more than 70 others in Jolo town last August 24.

Pursuit operations are still ongoing to capture Sawadjaan and his cohorts. The Western Mindanao Command has maintained that Sawadjaan is in Sulu contrary to earlier reports that he is in Zamboanga province.

"We are employing the full force of JTF Sulu’s military assets to track down the group of Mundi Sawadjaan," JTF Sulu commander Brigadier General William Gonzales said.

"We are winning in our peace and development campaign in the island of Sulu; in due time, the dwindling number of the terror group will surely be decimated with the active cooperation and support of the governor and municipal mayors," he added.—AOL, GMA News
