Oriental Mindoro declares state of calamity due to onslaught of Typhoon Quinta


The local government of Oriental Mindoro has declared a state of calamity due to the onslaught of Typhoon Quinta.

Interviewed on Balitanghali on Wednesday, Governor Humerlito Dolor said the damage to agriculture in the province reached P2.1 billion.

The province also tallied more than 5,000 totally damaged houses and recorded over 27,000 partially damaged homes.

Dolor added that more than P20 million worth of boats were also destroyed due to Quinta.

The governor said the local government is already preparing a supplemental budget for the affected residents.

Moreover, he said the National Housing Authority committed to give assistance to those families whose houses were damaged, while the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources promised to help local fishermen who lost their boats.

The Department of Agriculture, meanwhile, said it will distribute propagules among the farmers whose plantations were destroyed by the typhoon.

Moreover, Dolor said the local government is already conducting clearing operations and the restoration of power supply.

The distribution of relief goods to the affected families is also ongoing, he added.—AOL, GMA News
