Pampanga residents brave flooded cemeteries ahead of week-long closure

Despite floodwaters brought by Typhoon Quinta, residents of Masantol, Pampanga visited cemeteries ahead of the week-long closure from October 29 to November 4 to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the Undas season.

According to Jun Veneracion’s report on “24 Oras,” the residents wanted to continue the tradition of paying respect to their departed loved ones despite the floods.

“Hindi naman po hadlang ‘yong baha para makapunta sa mga ganiyan eh,” Jaycel Lamigo, a resident, said.

Four of the five cemeteries in Masantol have been submerged in flood for almost a month already.

“Wala po kaming magawa dito kasi talagang malaking-malaki na po ‘yong tubig. Sa high tide lang po, lumulubog na ‘yong mga nitso namin at tsaka mga daan,” Masantol Vice Mayor Epifanio Lacap, Jr. said. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
