Death toll in Bicol due to Rolly now at 16 — OCD5

The number of fatalities in the Bicol Region due to Super Typhoon Rolly has increased to 16, the Office of Civil Defense V said on Monday.

In its latest situation report, OCD V indicated that 10 of the victims were from Albay (Daraga, 1; Guinobatan, 3; Malinao, 2; Oas, 1; Polangui, 1; Tabaco City, 2) while six were from Catanduanes (Gigmoto, 1; Virac, 4; San Miguel, 1).

Three individuals from Guinobatan are still missing, the report added.

The OCD V also stated that a total of 96,887 families or 372,381 individuals were displaced in the entire region. Of that total number, a total of 78,922 families or 302,907 people are staying inside evacuation centers.

It also said 76,176 residences were destroyed by Rolly.

Some bridges and local roads from the 10 municipalities of Albay are still flooded while in Camarines Sur, 29 municipalities and 186 barangays have flood waters too.

The Department of Agriculture in Region V also reported a total of P694,366,305.89 worth of value of loss and damage in the entire region.

During a Laging Handa press briefing, Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara said local authorities continue their assessment for the damages brought by Rolly in the province.

"Pinatawag ko 'yung district engineers, 'yung provincial engineering, umiikot pa sila para magbigay ng tamang damage assessment," Bichara said.

He also said a lot of areas in the province still have no power supply. It would take a long time for some areas to restore their electricity as a number of electric posts fell.

"Pinatawag din namin 'yung electric cooperative dahil nagpaalam din kami na putulin 'yung linya ng kuryente para maitabi namin mga poste. Tinanong ko sila kung kailan tayo magkakaroon ng ilaw, sabi matagal-tagal 'to dahil sa dami ng posteng natumba," Bichara said.
