Death toll in Bicol due to Rolly now 21 —OCD

The death toll in the Bicol Region due to Super Typhoon Rolly climbed to 21, the Office of Civil Defense in Region V said on Saturday.

Thirteen of the fatalities were from Albay, two in Camarines Sur, and six in Catanduanes.

The fatalities in Albay were one each from Bacacay, Tiwi, Daraga and Polangui, then five in Guinobatan and four in Malinao.

In Camarines Sur, the fatalities were one each in Ocampo and Camaligan.

In Catanduanes, three of the fatalities were from Virac, then one each in Gigmoto, San Miguel, and San Andres.

Four people are still missing—three in Guinobatan, Albay and one in San Miguel, Catanduanes.

The number of injured individuals remains the same at 394. 

A total of 26,561 families or 100,345 persons were displaced due to Rolly, according to data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) FO V DROMIC as of 12 noon on Saturday.

Of this number, 20,070 families or 77,504 persons were staying inside evacuation centers, while 6,491 families or 22,841 persons were outside evacuation centres.

Power, water, communications

As of 6 p.m. on Friday, power has yet to be fully restored in Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, and Naga City in Camarines Sur.

Some areas in Albay, Camarines Sur, Masbate, and Sorsogon also have no power.

Catanduanes is still without water service as of Saturday night.

Cellphone signals have yet to be fully restored in parts of Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes and Masbate including Burias Island.

Houses

A total of 292,728 houses were damaged, broken down into 238,214 partially damaged, and 54,514 totally damaged.

Total damage

OCD V estimated the total damage in the region to reach P12,712,026,492.83.

Agriculture damage as per Department of Agriculture RFO5 is P3,658,773,499.63 so far. This accounts for 63,305.70 hectares of affected agricultural areas with 155,369.40 metric tons of crops.

Damage to government infrastructure as per Department of Public Works and Highways R05 is P4,621,348,885.60. This is broken down into P1,014,042,385.60 damaged national roads and bridges, P1,875,600,000.00 flood control infrastructure, and P1,731,706,500.00 other buildings and infrastructure.

The Department of Education RO5 said damage reached P4,298,849,100.00, broken down into P4,061,850,000.00 damaged infrastructure and P236,999,100.00 damage to non-infrastructure.

Electric cooperatives meanwhile reported total damage of P133,055,007.60.

State of calamity

The provinces of Camarines Sur, Catanduanes and Albay have already declared a state of calamity last week.

Assistance

Meanwhile, a total of P38,320,892.00 has been given to Bicol as assistance.

Rolly is considered the strongest typhoon to hit the Earth this 2020. —KG, GMA News
