Quezon residents without electricity surprised to learn of Ulysses

Residents of Real, Quezon who lost their electricity supply due to earlier typhoons were surprised to learn on Tuesday that another storm may hit their province.

According to Jun Veneracion’s report on “24 Oras,” one resident said that her family had only relied on news that their neighbors managed to receive.

“Na naman? Ay susmaryosep… Wala naman kaming radyo, wala naman kaming TV, wala nga kaming kuryente,” Donata Diagro said.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office placed their emergency units on red alert due to Tropical Storm Ulysses.

Meanwhile, municipal governments were also preparing the province's agricultural sector, which was heavily hit by recent consecutive typhoons.

“Kung pumasok muli ang Bagyong Ulysses, baka saidin niya ang natitirang pangkauhayan ng ating mga kababayan,” PDRRMO chief Dr. Melchor Avenilla Jr. said.

The Provincial Government of Quezon may start preemptive evacuations on Wednesday, especially in several critical areas where the effects of Ulysses would be most felt.

These critical areas included Real, General Nakar, Infanta, and Polillo Island.

“Ngayon pa lamang ay sila’y inaabisuhan na na magkaroon ng mas maaga na preemptive evacuation,” Avenilla said. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
