Catanduanes ‘back to zero’ after Ulysses

A week after Catanduanes was lashed by Super Typhoon Rolly, Governor Joseph Cua on Thursday said the province is “back to zero” after the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses.

According to Ian Cruz’s report on “24 Oras,” Ulysses brought strong winds and heavy rains over Catanduanes, toppling trees and electric posts.

“After Typhoon Rolly, ‘yong mga tao natin may nakukuha pang gamit sa bahay nilang nawasak at nagtayo sila ng temporary shelter na sana maging temporary shelter nila ‘yon kaya lang winasak naman ng Bagyong Ulysses kaya back to zero tayo kaya kumbaga talagang kailangan ang tulong ng bawat ahensya, lalo sa national government,” Cua said.

Several plantations were also submerged in flood.

Moreover, a circumferential road located on the boundary of Virac and Bato was rendered impassable anew with landslides triggered by heavy rains due to Ulysses.

“Lalo kaming nahirapan mag-umpisa ulit dahil walang mapagkukunan. Wala talaga kahit saan,” Beverly Agripa said.

A total of 55 landslides were reported in the province due to the onslaught of Ulysses.

Earlier, state weather bureau PAGASA said Ulysses is forecasted to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday morning. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
