Only 3 gates at Magat Dam remain open for spilling operations

There are only three gates at the Magat Dam that remain open for the ongoing spilling operations, according to Ronald Villa, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 2 Operations Center chief.

In an interview on Super Radyo's DZBB, Villa said the other gates have been shut.

The personnel at the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services at PAGASA will continue to monitor Magat Dam and the other dams that are affected by Typhoon Ulysses.

The dam, in an earlier GMA News report, was identified as one of the causes of massive flooding in many provinces hit by Typhoon Ulysses on Thursday.

According to a report on Saksi on Friday evening, six gates were opened for the spilling operations.

In a separate interview, Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba said already signified with the Sangguniang Bayan that the province should be placed under a state of calamity.

Villa, meanwhile, reported that there are about 2,400 families or 8,006 individuals living in evacuation centers in Region 2. -- BAP, GMA News
