Leptospirosis kills 6 in Bicol Region

Six people have died due to leptospirosis in the Bicol Region.

According to a 24 Oras News Alert on Wednesday, the Department of Health - Bicol said of the six, four were recorded following the aftermath of typhoons Rolly and Ulysses.

This brings the total number of leptospirosis cases in the region to 70.

Leptospirosis is commonly acquired from the urine of animals, including rats.

The DOH advised people to take prophylaxis medicines if they could not avoid going through mud or flood.

However, the public should still be cautious as prophylaxis is not a vaccine and there is still a possibility that they would get leptospirosis.—Jamil Santos/AOL, GMA News
