PNP readies criminal raps vs. BIFF leaders, members over Datu Piang attack

Police are set to file criminal complaints against the two leaders of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and several of its members following the attack in Datu Piang, Maguindanao on Thursday night.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday identified the leaders of the 50 armed men who attacked the town as Salahudin Hasan, also known as Salah, and Muhiden Animbang Indong, also known as commander Karialan.

The PNP said criminal complaints for attempted murder, arson (damage to government property), indiscriminate firing, damage to property, and grave threats and intimidation are already being prepared against the suspects.

No casualty was reported in the incident but the suspects had set on fire a police vehicle.

Armed Forces chief General Gilbert Gapay has said the incident is being jointly probed by the police and the military.

Joint Task Force Central spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Anhouvic Atilano earlier said the suspects were supposedly targeting the town's police chief, Police Captain Israel Bayona.

Atilano said authorities are still checking why the police officer was being targeted by the armed men.

Meanwhile, the PNP said nearby municipal police stations have been alerted in case the BIFF will attack again.—LDF, GMA News
