Suspect in Cebu lawyer's killing nabbed in Laguna —DOJ chief

A suspect in the murder of Cebu lawyer Joey Luis Wee has been arrested, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Wednesday.

Guevarra said he was informed on Tuesday that "a certain Peralta" was tracked down and arrested in Laguna. The suspect is in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation, he said.

He said other details will follow.

Wee was shot outside his office building, in broad daylight, in Cebu City last November 23. He was killed less than a week after another lawyer, Eric Jay Magcamit of Palawan, was gunned down while on his way to a hearing.

Nine suspects, including a policeman, have been arrested and face criminal complaints over Magcamit's death.

More than 50 lawyers, judges, and prosecutors have been killed since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office in 2016. —Nicole-Anne C. Lagrimas/KBK, GMA News
