Suspected NPA guerrilla nabbed in Negros Occidental, military says

A suspected member of the New People's Army (NPA) was arrested by security forces in Talisay City, Negros Occidental on Thursday, the military said Friday.

Information from the Philippine Army's 3rd Infantry Division identified the suspected rebel as Ruffa "Reniel" Baynosa, resident of Barangay San Jose, Toboso.

During the operation conducted by the 79th Infantry Battalion and the Talisay police, the security forces noticed that Baynosa was about to enter the residence of one Marilyn Dianton. Baynosa was then questioned by authorities.

According to authorities, Baynosa had warrants of arrest for murder and frustrated murder, issued by Ma. Rita Bascos Sarabia, presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court Branch 58 in San Carlos City.

They said Baynosa was supposedly involved during an ambush on civilians in Barangay Salamanca in Toboso in July 2009, wherein three civilians died and three others were injured.

Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Alvaran, commanding officer of the 79IB, lauded the efforts of troops as well as the personnel of the Talisay City Police Station for their perseverance and commitment which led to the apprehension of Baynosa. —LBG, GMA News
