COVID-19 cases in Baguio decreasing, Magalong says


The number of cases of COVID-19 in Baguio City is decreasing, Mayor Benjamin Magalong said Tuesday.

In a television interview, Magalong said the city has recorded 5,100 COVID-19 cases but more than 400 are active ones. 

"At present, we have 480 plus na active cases and for the past five to four days, bumababa na siya, averaging 23, 24 cases a day," Magalong told ANC.

He earlier said that Baguio City is not yet open for tourists.

According to Magalong, local authorities in the Cordillera region are closely monitoring the new coronavirus variant.

The region is placed under general community quarantine from February 1 to 15.

The Department of Health has said 83 people in Bontoc, Mountain Province and six from La Trinidad, Benguet, who are close contacts of cases with the UK variant of coronavirus, have been infected with COVID-19.

The DOH said as of Sunday, a total of 447people have been identified as first to third generation contacts of the cases of UK variant in the region while 56 RT-PCR test results of some close contacts are still pending. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
