Surigao del Sur residents brace for Auring onslaught

Residents of Surigao del Sur on Friday have started preparing for the impact of tropical storm Auring.

According to Jandi Esteban’s report on “24 Oras,” though Auring has yet to make landfall, the strong winds caused by the tropical storm earlier brought down trees in Lanuza.

Due to this motorcycle-rider Kevin Eliorica, who was just passing by, took the initiative to cut the branches.

Officials of Barangay San Agustin Sur in Tandag toured the area to remind residents to prepare for evacuation, especially those living near bodies of water.

“Kailangan na namin magimpake dahil delikado na rin dito,” a resident said.

Fishermen of Barangay Bungtod worked together to lift their boats from the fish port. They also tied down their boats to prevent these from being carried away or destroyed by waves.

In Barangay Mabua, a big tree crashed into a house. No one was injured.

Meanwhile, more than 90 families were evacuated from a small island in Purok Arangasa of Barangay Aras-Asan. They are staying at an evacuation center in the area.

PAGASA said Auring is expected to make landfall over the eastern coast of the Caraga Region on Sunday morning.

That is only for several days. -Joahna Lei Casilao/NB, GMA News
