IAS to conduct separate probe on shootout that led to Calbayog mayor's death —Sinas

Philippine National Police chief Police General Debold Sinas said Wednesday he requested the Internal Affairs Service to conduct a motu proprio investigation on the shootout which led to the death of Calbayog City Mayor Ronaldo Aquino.

“I have talked to the IAS yesterday and during our command conference I requested IAS to conduct motu proprio (probe) now,” Sinas told reporters.

He said the IAS will send probers to Calbayog City to conduct a parallel investigation.

“If somebody violated the POP (police operational procedure) and alike para malaman natin so they will conduct separately an investigation,” said Sinas.

He said he is okay with the National Bureau of Investigation conducting a probe on the incident but the PNP still needs to have a separate one.

“Yes it's okay. Kung ganun ang request po right rin po nila ‘yun pero kami rin ay trabaho po namin magconduct din kami ng separate investigation,” he said.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Tuesday he ordered the NBI to look into the shooting incident.

Earlier, the Police Regional Office 8 formed a special investigation task group to probe the shooting incident.—AOL, GMA News
