An Indonesian minor who was kidnapped by an alleged Abu Sayyaf leader was rescued on Sunday in Tawi-Tawi, the Philippine military said on Sunday.

In a statement, Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan Jr., Armed Forces of the Philippines-Philippine Army's Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) chief, said the 15-year-old Indonesian kidnap victim was rescued in Kalupag Island, Languyan at 6:30 a.m.

"Currently, the rescued Indo kidnap victim is at the headquarters of the 2nd Marine Brigade for medical procedure and debriefing," said Vinluan.

Military forces captured the victim's alleged abductor, Majan Sahidjuan, a.k.a. Apo Mike, who was tagged by authorities as leader of Sulu-based Abu Sayyaf Group.

Sahidjuan was injured during an armed encounter with soldiers, and was abandoned by his comrades.

The military said it would conduct a hot pursuit operation to arrest the other abductors. —Consuelo Marquez/KG, GMA News
